What is TonTon Maps?
TonTon Maps is a free web app that paints country statistics onto a single world map — economic size, land area, income level, median age and more. Regional differences that are hard to spot in tables become clear at a glance.
It runs right in your browser with no installation or sign-up, on both desktop and mobile.
Eight ways to view the world
Switch view modes from the menu at the top right of the map.
GDP
Nominal gross domestic product by country. Select a country to see its GDP, population and GDP per capita. Select several countries and the app totals them and works out the per-capita figure.
GDP (PPP)
GDP at purchasing power parity, adjusted for local price levels — useful for comparing economies in terms closer to real living standards.
Area
Land area and population density. Select several countries to add up their area.
Global blocs
Members of 18 international organizations and blocs — including the G7, G20, NATO, the EU, ASEAN, OPEC and BRICS — painted onto the map. Blocs are grouped into security, regional, economic, summit and energy categories. Pick a bloc to select all its members at once and see their combined GDP.
Income levels
Countries grouped into eight tiers by GDP per capita. Tier boundaries double at each step — $64,000, $32,000, $16,000 and so on, down to under $1,000. You can pick several tiers together.
Median age
Median age by country across seven bands — see which continents are young and which regions are ageing fast.
Company market cap
Market capitalization of 241 major global companies, grouped by the country of their headquarters. Pick a market-cap band to see the number of companies and their total value on the map.
Historical empires
The greatest extent of 77 empires in history, from Rome and the Mongols to the British Empire. Grouped into eight regions such as Western Europe, East Asia and the Americas, with peak year and territory size.
How to use
- Click a country to select it. Its figures appear in the panel at the top left.
- Click more countries to add them — totals and per-capita figures update immediately.
- Click a selected country again to remove it, or click the sea to clear all.
- On desktop, use the mouse wheel to zoom and drag to pan. The button below the map switches to full screen.
- On mobile, pinch to zoom and drag with one finger to pan.
- Use the globe button to change the language.

Figures follow the public releases of each source. Methodologies differ between institutions, so numbers may not match other references exactly. Empire territories and bloc maps are shown roughly using modern borders; historical borders are a matter of interpretation, so please treat them as approximate.

통통맵스는 어떤 서비스인가요
통통맵스는 나라별 경제 규모, 면적, 소득수준, 평균연령 같은 자료를 세계지도 위에 색으로 칠해 보여주는 무료 웹 앱입니다. 표나 숫자 목록으로는 잘 보이지 않던 지역별 차이를 지도 한 장으로 한눈에 비교할 수 있습니다.
설치나 회원가입 없이 브라우저에서 바로 실행되고, 컴퓨터와 휴대폰 모두에서 쓸 수 있습니다.
여덟 가지 보기 방식
화면 오른쪽 위 메뉴에서 보기 방식을 바꿀 수 있습니다.
GDP
국가별 명목 국내총생산입니다. 나라를 누르면 GDP, 인구, 1인당 GDP가 표시되고, 여러 나라를 함께 고르면 합계와 1인당 값을 바로 계산해 줍니다.
GDP (PPP)
구매력평가 기준 국내총생산입니다. 나라마다 다른 물가 수준을 반영하기 때문에, 생활 수준에 가까운 실질적인 경제 규모를 비교할 때 유용합니다.
면적
국토 면적과 인구밀도를 봅니다. 여러 나라를 고르면 면적을 합산합니다.
글로벌 협의체
G7, G20, NATO, EU, ASEAN, OPEC, BRICS 등 18개 국제기구와 협의체의 회원국을 지도에 칠합니다. 안보, 지역 협력, 경제, 정상회의, 에너지로 나뉘어 있고, 협의체를 고르면 회원국이 한꺼번에 선택되어 회원국 전체의 GDP 합계를 볼 수 있습니다.
소득수준
1인당 GDP를 기준으로 나라를 여덟 구간으로 나눠 칠합니다. 구간 경계는 64,000달러, 32,000달러, 16,000달러처럼 정확히 두 배씩 차이 나도록 정해 1,000달러 미만까지 이어집니다. 구간을 여러 개 함께 고를 수 있습니다.
평균연령
국가별 중위연령을 일곱 구간으로 나눠 칠합니다. 어느 대륙의 인구가 젊고, 어느 지역이 빠르게 고령화되고 있는지가 한눈에 드러납니다.
기업 시가총액
세계 주요 기업 241곳의 시가총액을 본사가 있는 나라별로 모아 보여줍니다. 시가총액 구간을 고르면 지도 위에 나라별 기업 수와 합계가 표시됩니다.
제국 영토
로마 제국, 몽골 제국, 대영 제국을 비롯한 역사 속 77개 제국의 최대 판도를 지도에 칠합니다. 서유럽, 동아시아, 아메리카 등 8개 지역으로 나뉘어 있고, 전성기 연도와 영토 면적을 함께 봅니다.
사용법
- 지도에서 나라를 클릭하면 선택되고, 왼쪽 위 패널에 수치가 표시됩니다.
- 여러 나라를 차례로 클릭하면 함께 선택되어 합계와 1인당 값이 계산됩니다.
- 선택한 나라를 다시 클릭하면 해제되고, 바다를 클릭하면 전체가 해제됩니다.
- 컴퓨터에서는 마우스 휠로 확대·축소하고, 끌어서 지도를 옮깁니다. 지도 아래 오른쪽 버튼으로 전체화면이 됩니다.
- 휴대폰에서는 두 손가락으로 확대·축소하고, 한 손가락으로 끌어서 옮깁니다.
- 지구본 모양 버튼으로 언어를 바꿀 수 있습니다.

수치는 발표 기관의 공개 자료를 따르며, 기관마다 집계 방식이 달라 다른 자료와 차이가 있을 수 있습니다. 제국 영토와 글로벌 협의체 지도는 현대 국경을 기준으로 대략 표시한 것으로, 역사 해석에 따라 달라질 수 있으니 참고용으로 봐 주시기 바랍니다.
